It just so happens that the first Saturday of June falls on the same day as the Dog Olympics sponsored by Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership. Elmer and I thought it would be fun to meetup with some of his bully friends from our group. The events are perfect for making any dog a super star and don't require any previous training.

Event options include:

  • T-shirt Race - Sprint a short distance with your dog, dress him/her in a t-shirt, and then sprint back to the start.
  • Shedding Contest - You have two (2) minutes to produce the largest pile of dog hair brushed from your dog's coat.
  • Pie Eating Contest - You and your dog compete to be the first to consume two pies - one for you, one for your dog.
  • 3-Minute Makeover - Give your dog the best make over with the provided materials in 3 minutes.
  • Obstacle Course - Your dog will wind his/her way through an obstacle course.
  • Bone Finding Contest - Your dog will compete to be the first to find a dog bone from a pile of hay.
  • Barking Contest - How much will your dog bark in one minute?

Click here for event details and registration form.

Each event costs only $6 to participate or do all seven for only $35. All fees go to support ARPO's">ARPO's efforts to promote responsible pet ownership in Indianapolis. Elmer was an ARPO dog before he came to live with me and they have helped me to place several foster dogs in the last few months so they hold a special place in our hearts!

Elmer & I are going to give the pie eating contest a try, but I think we'll have fun watching all of the other events too. We've been to other dog-human meetup events in the past, and the dogs can make it a little tricky to socialize as much as we normally do at an event, but it should still be fun.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail Lori & Elmer. Let's plan to meet near the Community Center which is labeled as "1" on this park map map. If you can't find us or you decide at the last minute that you aren't going to make it, call Lori's cell (to be e-mailed to all yes & maybe RSVPs a few days before the event).

You do not *have* to pre-register/pre-pay but it would be helpful to the folks at ARPO if you did. Alternately, you can e-mail them at info@adoptarpo.org with your dog's name, weight and which events you would like to try then you can turn in your form and money the day of the event. Elmer and I did go ahead and pre-register and send in our money, but this is a WEATHER PERMITTING event in my book. Elmer despises the rain (and I don't find it all that appealing either). If you and your pooch don't mind a little rain, please feel free to still attend the Dog Olympics, but don't look for us there!

Elmer and I did this last year and it was SO much fun to watch everyone having a great time with their dogs. We're going to do the agility course this year. Should be interesting!

Who attended?

    •  My dogs and I had a great time, but it was a little tricky getting to interact much with the humans. My foster boxer was feeling a little *too* dog "friendly" and was an inappropriate humping machine :o( It was a lot of fun to watch the events and say hello to folks.
